The company has been in continuous operation since 1914, and in 1915 William P. Savage received U.S. Patent No. 1,125,731 for the Impact Register. Its recorders use mechanical G-force sensing that needs no power or signal, with a battery powering the chart-drive motor to create a continuous, time-stamped record.
