The Executive Protection Institute (EPI) was founded in 1978 by Dr. Richard W. Kobetz and developed executive protection training, transforming the limited bodyguard approach into a profession. EPI provides training to government, private, and corporate security teams worldwide and also offers professional executive protection services. In 2009 the International Protection Group (IPG) acquired EPI; headquarters are in New York City with a regional office in Winchester, VA.
