EsterCycle enables circular bioplastics by breaking down compostable plastics into their core building blocks. It accepts all compostable plastics in a mixed stream, removing them from recycling streams where they are viewed as contamination. Using a simple alcohol solvent and a cheap catalyst under mild conditions, EsterCycle breaks plastics down to fundamental building blocks that are separated and purified so plastics can be remade with properties matching first generation material while drastically reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
