Embrained builds an open-source robot that learns to navigate a home using only a camera and a neural network running on a laptop, with no LiDAR, odometry, GPS, or cloud. The robot is a thin sensor/actuator relay (camera, two motors, WiFi radio) while all cognition runs on the laptop GPU, using a Variational Autoencoder for perception and a reinforcement learning policy for goal-directed action.
