Cognosci Inc. was founded in May 2000 to develop anti-inflammatory compounds for the treatment of neuroinflammatory diseases including Multiple Sclerosis, Alzheimer's Disease, and brain bleeding events. The company is discovering and developing therapeutic compounds based on the apoE protein, small patented synthetic peptides of ten to seventeen amino acids with anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective activity. Cognosci purchased rights to an APOE-based compound from Duke University and has engineered over 500 new compounds.
