Citizens Telephone Company was founded in 1904 in Hammond, New York, when W.T. Stiles leased the Chippewa lines and expanded with new lines and telephones. Donald and Patricia Ceresoli purchased the company in 1968 and later purchased Macomb Telephone Company in 1973. The Ceresoli family expanded the business into other areas, and Citizens Telephone currently has over 1,800 subscribers.
