Hawi Renewable Development, Inc operates the HAWI Windfarm at Upolu Point on the northern tip of Hawaii Island. Owned by Hawi Renewable Development, LLC, the windfarm uses sixteen Vestas V-47 turbines, each delivering 660 kW, and has been in commercial operation since April 2006. It supplies energy to Hawaii Electric Light Company under a long-term power purchase agreement recently extended for an additional 20 years. The project also supports local jobs and partnerships with North Kohala organizations.
