Addis Energy is developing a new subsurface resource using technology developed out of MIT's Department of Materials Science and Engineering. Targeting iron-rich resources in the subsurface, Addis leverages oil and gas techniques to inject engineered fluids that harness the chemical and thermal potential of the earth to produce hydrogen, ammonia, and other chemicals. The chemical potential of iron acts as a naturally charged battery discharged in an iron rusting reaction, splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen.
