Amorphous Materials, Inc. (AMI) was founded in 1977 to serve as a source of infrared transmitting glass (IR glass) used as optical materials for night vision (FLIR) systems. AMI has developed the technology and built the facility capable of compounding and casting 10,000 lbs. of glass per year, producing IR optical blanks with precision. Plates 8 inches in diameter weighing 20 lbs. are produced in high purity quartz containers fabricated at AMI, with each plate purified by distillation in a computer controlled process and melt traceability maintained.
