BNSF Railway operates one of the largest freight railroad networks in North America, with 32,500 route miles of rail across the western two-thirds of the United States. Formed in late 1995 with the merger of the Burlington Northern Railroad and the Santa Fe Railway, it is the product of nearly 400 railroad lines merged or acquired over 175 years.
