American Rock Salt Company operates the largest operating salt mine in the United States, located at its Hampton Corners facility 30 miles south of Rochester, New York. Founded in January 1997, it was the first successful salt mine built in the US since the 1960s. The company supplies rock salt for deicing roads across the Northeast Snow Belt region and over 12 states, producing between 10,000 and 20,000 tons of halite daily.
